okay first of all lmao it all finally make sense. i was wondering who the main character is based on. the only joseon monarch whose birth name is yi sun is king sukjong, but it couldn't have been him because i looked him up but there's nothing remotely similar about the two aside their name. plus, ruler's yi sun is a son of a royal consort while king sukjong is a son of a queen (one that's very strict about picking royal consorts so eventually her husband didn't get the chance to have any lol) i had a feeling that it's crown prince sado but among the articles that i've read, none told me of his birth name. even wiki only gave his prince name which is jangheon, so i let it slipped my mind completely. but then i read a review on the drama and boy was i shook. everything finally make sense. the king killing his brother to ascend the throne, only to be a puppet of the main political faction (in this fictional case it's pyunsoo-hwe, the real one is the noron faction). and sado's birth name is ALSO yi sun. i was ecstatic that i finally get to know who they're referring to in this drama but then i started feeling anxious because EVERY sageuk fan knows what happened to crown prince sado in the end *coughs* he didn't get to reign *coughs* lol. but this is loosely based on sado's tragedy, only a few events and names are kept the same and the rest is COMPLETELY different so it's too early to say anything phew *cracks fingers* 😂😂😂
